What we do, and what we don't
Boilers are 90% of our work. Radiant floor heating is most of the rest. Snow-melt systems are a major secondary focus. We also do master-plumber-level plumbing, gas line work, and water heater service — but the hydronic side is what we built the company around, and it's why this site exists.
What we don't do: forced-air furnaces, AC, ductwork. Those are entirely different trades — ones that most "boiler companies" actually specialize in while treating boilers as a side gig. We picked the opposite path. We hire and train technicians around hydronic depth, and we leave the air side to the companies that specialize in it.
The result is the depth you can hear in a five-minute phone call. We can tell whether your system needs a part, a clean, a chemical treatment, or a real conversation about replacement — and we don't have a quota pushing us toward any one of those outcomes.
Meet the owner
Derek
Derek owns and operates Utah Boiler Experts and its parent company, The Other Buddy Plumbing & Heating. He's been working on hydronic systems across Utah since the late 1990s — long enough to remember when Lochinvar Knights were new and Buderus was still German-owned.
Most of what makes us different traces back to Derek's training philosophy: combustion analysis on every visit, root-cause diagnosis instead of parts-cannon repair, and an open conversation with the customer about what their system actually needs. He still runs service calls himself — particularly the complex luxury hydronic systems in Park City, Heber, and Deer Valley.
Behind Derek is a small crew of trained hydronic technicians — the kind of people you only find at a shop where boilers, radiant, and snow-melt are 90% of the daily work, not a side gig.
Credentials & licensing
- Utah State Contractor License — Active, in good standing

- NATE certification — North American Technician Excellence

- Combustion analyzer certified — Every truck carries a calibrated analyzer; every service call uses one
"Depth is the only competitive advantage that doesn't expire. Equipment changes, brands change, codes change. The tech who understands how a boiler actually works adapts. The tech who memorized one install never does."
How we work
On the phone
A real person answers — usually within a few rings during business hours, often after hours during winter. We try to triage on the call: what brand, what model, what's it doing. Two minutes of triage often tells us what part to throw on the truck before we leave.
On site
Diagnostic with proper test equipment. Combustion analysis on every service. Honest quote before the work begins. Most repairs finish same-visit because the common parts are on the truck.
After the work
Two-year warranty on workmanship for repairs. Full manufacturer warranty pass-through on installations. Annual maintenance reminders for systems we service so they keep running.
Where we work
26 cities across Utah, anchored on the Wasatch Front and Wasatch Back. See the full service area list →
